Book Report Guidelines
This year you
are required to write two book reports(7th) three book reports (8th) per trimester. These book reports must
follow these guidelines:
Report Information:

The book report must be typed, 12 point Times new Roman font, double
spaced with 1 inch margins on all sides
Þ Each Book report must have a title page that will include the following information in proper format. The title page must be centered horizontally approximately half way down the page. 12 point Times New Roman must be used as well.

The next page should contain the following information labeled
appropriately and in the following format: 12 point Times new Roman font, left
justified from top of the page.

Report

You are required to answer all of the following questions, but you are
not limited to just my questions.
SUMMARY OF THE BOOK:
Paragraph 1: Introduction
- Who is the book written by?
- What kind of story is it?
- Setting: Where and when does the story take place?
Paragraph 2: Main Characters
- Who are the main characters in the story?

What are the characters like?
Paragraph 3: Plot summary
- Who is telling the story?
- What is the
point of view of the book?
First person:
the
narrator is a character in the story
Third person:
the third-person narrator does not describe his/her role in the action, he did that, they
did something else

What is the book about in general?
- What happens in the story?
Paragraph 4: Commentary
- Did you like the story? / What do you think of it?
- What did you like best/least about the book? Why?
- Which character is your favorite? Why?

Would you recommend the story? Why or why not?

Which character do you most relate to?
Notes:
1. A paragraph is 5-7 complete sentences
2. You may read no more than one book in a series. (For example, if you read the third Harry Potter book, that is the only Harry Potter Book you will be allowed to write a report on this year.
3. You may read no more than 2 non-series books by the same author. (For example, if you like Lois Lowry or S.E. Hinton, you may only use two non-series books by those authors over the course of the year)
4. Your books must exceed 175 pages (7th grade) 200 pages (8th Grade). No Exceptions!
5. You must Choose at least 3 different Genres to read throughout the year
6. Your books must be at grade level or higher in reading difficulty. If you have doubts, ask!
